The Harpur Centre, Bedford’s premier shopping centre, is open seven days a week with over 30 stores trading over two levels.

Conamar were engaged to deliver a contract to deliver alterations and refurbishments in the live shopping centre, with a requirement to minimise disruption to shoppers and staff throughout the project.

The works comprised the removal of the pedestrian spiral ramp and removal of basement toilets, prior to the construction of a new glazed lift and feature staircase from the basement to ground floor.

New welfare facilities have been installed in the basement area with internal pilasters recladded. New ceiling works and floor tiles were installed throughout the shopping centre, completed in phases so as not to impact too heavily on the building users.

Further works were carried out to the entrance, with a new “entrance box” created to provide an alternative ingress/egress point.
