Transforming Underused Arches into Thriving Commercial Space
Conamar successfully completed Phase 1 of the Wood Lane Arches regeneration in August 2025, delivering our fourth project for Transport for London (TfL) Places for London. This transformative scheme is unlocking the potential of previously underutilised railway arches beside White City and Westfield, converting them into high-quality commercial units and new public realm that boosts local connectivity and economic activity.

Project Scope
Phase 1 focused on the conversion and enhancement of 13 existing arches, creating flexible retail, café and workspace opportunities designed to support local businesses and start-ups. The works included:
- Enabling and preparatory works across multiple arches
- Façade improvements and structural alterations
- Accessibility and public-realm upgrades
- Creation of three new pedestrian routes by opening up adjoining arches
- Landscaping enhancements to improve the overall experience for residents, visitors and local workers
Throughout delivery, Conamar maintained a collaborative partnership with TfL, ensuring smooth progress and shared decision-making that strengthened engagement with local stakeholders and the surrounding community.
Sustainability & Environmental Management
Our team carried out a full assessment of environmental aspects early in the programme, implementing targeted control measures to minimise disruption and improve the ecological quality of the site. The project supports both Conamar’s corporate carbon-reduction commitments and the wider sustainability ambitions of TfL, setting a strong baseline for future phases.
Design Innovation
A key design feature of the project is an adaptable metal canopy system that can be extruded to connect arches via an internal corridor. This modular ‘kit-of-parts’ approach allows flexible multi-arch lettings, creating scalable solutions that can be replicated across TfL’s wider estate.
Building Better Together
Conamar is proud to have delivered Phase 1 of this significant regeneration project for an important repeat client and to contribute to revitalising West London’s urban fabric.
Looking Ahead – Phase 2
Phase 2 of the masterplan is set to continue to build on this momentum, shaping valuable new opportunities for businesses and the local community, by delivering:
- Seven additional commercial units
- Four further pedestrian connections
- Enhanced urban realm and increased permeability across the estate
These improvements will continue to strengthen local placemaking, accessibility and economic opportunity.
