A recent project for John Lewis Partnership is the replacement façade on the Peter Jones Building, on Sloane Square in central London.
Peter Jones is a Grade 2* listed building located on Kings Road and Sloane square; the store is built over seven (7) floors. The building has a long planning history of small and large-scale alterations relating to its functioning as a department store. A general scope of works consisting of maintenance works, enhancement works and general artistic lighting are planned to rejuvenate and invigorate the façade.
Prior to the appointment for the main works, our client engaged with us to undertake the feasibility studies and surveys to aid with the design development. The intrusive fabric surveys were carried out whilst the building was occupied and live to the public. We managed this by segregating the areas in which were we working, where works could not be done outside of opening hours.
The building will feature an innovative IArt system, which features media panels in between the facade spandrels to create an interactive screen across the building which will change and interact with the light around it.
The building is wrapped in a graphic monoflex system during the works with a crash deck beneath to protect the public, and the store will be live throughout the contract.
