Project Scope
Conamar was appointed by the London Borough of Bromley to deliver the refurbishment and transformation of vacant space at Churchill Court into the new Bromley Health & Wellbeing Centre. The project provides a modern, accessible facility bringing a wide range of health and wellbeing services into the heart of Bromley town centre, supporting the One Bromley partnership and the South East London Integrated Care System’s ambition to deliver joined-up, community-focused care.
The works involved the full refurbishment of the vacant first floor within the Phase 4 area of the building, creating a purpose-designed clinical environment that supports primary care, community services and wellbeing provision in a highly accessible location.
Scope of Works
The project comprised a comprehensive CAT B fit-out and associated landlord and infrastructure upgrades, including:
- Creation of new consultation rooms, treatment rooms, phlebotomy rooms, offices, waiting areas and reception
- Minor strip-out works, including removal of existing partitions and WCs
- Infilling of the atrium at second floor level to maximise usable clinical space
- Fire protection upgrades to the underside of the second-floor soffit and full fire-stopping to slab perimeters
- Landlord works to reception areas and stair cores
- Upgrade of basement-level air handling plant to support the new clinical use
- External signage and wayfinding to provide clear patient routes from the public highway
- Minor contractor-designed elements were integrated into the works, ensuring buildability, compliance and seamless coordination with the wider building systems.
Delivering Healthcare in a Live Environment
Located within a busy town-centre building, the project required careful planning to manage logistics, access and safety while minimising disruption to other occupiers and the surrounding public realm. Conamar implemented a tightly controlled construction management plan, coordinating deliveries, sequencing works and maintaining clear segregation between construction activities and the operational parts of the building.
Key works were programmed to align with service requirements, including a carefully managed relocation period over the Christmas shutdown to support continuity of care.
Quality, Safety and Compliance
Healthcare environments demand exceptional standards of quality, safety and compliance. Conamar delivered the scheme in line with robust quality management procedures, ensuring that all clinical spaces met statutory, fire and building control requirements, as well as the operational needs of healthcare providers.
Fire strategy, infection-control considerations, accessibility and patient experience were central to the delivery approach, resulting in a safe, welcoming and efficient environment for both staff and service users.
Delivering Better Together
The completed Bromley Health & Wellbeing Centre provides a modern, integrated healthcare hub at the heart of the town, improving access to local services and supporting a more collaborative, community-based model of care. The project demonstrates Conamar’s expertise in delivering complex refurbishment projects within live environments and our growing track record in the healthcare and public-sector estate.
