This project comprised the delivery of a new spin studio at Flitwick Leisure Centre, and was procured under the SCAPE framework, which aims to procure projects from feasibility stage, requiring a full design and build process.
The works comprised the delivery of adaptations of various areas in the building to form a new immersive studio (and access to the new area). The new studio has a large screen along one wall, which displays a moving scene (for example, along a leafy boulevard) to motivate the cyclists in the room. 6 specialist “cycles” are affixed to the floor and linked to the computer system to track statistics as cyclists progress, giving them statistics to aid them in their fitness targets. We worked closely with a named contractor to install new specialist lighting and sound effects to add atmosphere to the new studio.
During the design development process, Conamar suggested an alternative specification for the tiles, which posed a saving of over £6,000. This was approved and developed into the design.
As part of the contract, we installed a new air changing / air conditioning system which covered the new spin studio, the main fitness studio, and existing meeting rooms and store rooms. This required an element of out of hours working in the public facing aspects. As the gym is open from early until late, this took some coordination!
The project was delivered on time, within budget and to a high quality.
