Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Conamar is fully committed to playing our part in addressing the global climate crisis. ‘Zero45’ is our Group-wide Carbon Strategy, which is driving extensive decarbonisation programmes across our estate, assets and operations. Climate change is, without doubt, one of the biggest challenges the world faces today, and as a responsible business, we must play our part in addressing this. It takes a significant amount of energy to manage our operations, and construct buildings. But we are reducing the amount of energy we use year-on-year as we find new ways of becoming more energy efficient. We are committed to achieving Net Zero by 2045 and are devoted to reducing emissions by 50% by 2030.
Path to Carbon Neutral Zero 45

Group Emissions – Baseline Reporting Year (2019/2020 1st April-31st March)

Our emissions are calculated in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) using the appropriate conversion factors published by BEIS. Non-UK operations utilise emission factors applicable to the fuel source and location. Our emissions data is reported in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.

Carbon Reduction Targets

To continue our progress to achieving Net Zero 45 via the reduction strategy outlined below.
Given our fast start we project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 118 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 10% sticking below target.

Carbon Reduction Target vs Actual

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2019/20 baseline. These have enabled a substantial decrease in emissions over the total period equating to 119.13 tCO2e or 10%.

    • HQ underwent a refurbishment in 2021, during which we adopted low-energy, long-life LED lighting and PIR lighting controls as well as an insulation retrofit. (Estimated to have cut our HQ energy consumption on lighting by around 80%.)
    • Furthermore, HQ moved to a renewable energy provider.
    • Site set up and cabins closely analysed to flag any efficiency issues
    • Utilisation of hybrid generators on site
    • We have an Activity Based Working policy to support reduced business travel and employee commuting post-pandemic, with increased home working and fewer client-site meetings.
    • We also undertook 10 major innovative low carbon designs. For example, Chart Street over this period a CLT driven structural timber award winner, by reducing demolition & material waste and using MMC the building considerably outperformed RIBA, LETI and IStructE targets with 171kg embodied C02e/m2 & operational energy of 34.6 kwh/m2/year
    • We continued to Electrify the fleet and now stand at 17%

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

In the future we have programmed to implement further measures such as:

    • Moving our operations towards 100% renewable energy including sites
    • Install solar panels and ground source pumps at HQ.
    • Electrifying our vehicles, commercial and fleet by 2035.
    • Developing technology-led solutions to measure and reduce emissions for ourselves customers and our supply chain.
    • Become leaders in sustainable net zero design
    • For unavoidable emissions, budgeting for and purchasing an increasing level of carbon removal or undertaking offset projects.
    • Securing accreditation to the ISO50001 Energy Management System
    • Continued Research and Development into zero carbon fuels
