Creating an extension to the existing cafeteria and a new break out area for students, we completed a 3,329 sq ft (300 sq m) single-storey courtyard extension next to the campus’s P Block.

The team constructed a steel frame onto solid concrete pad foundations with a concrete ground floor slab. The roof itself is a trapezoidal steel deck bearing onto the steel frame, covered with a warm deck roof and performance felt. The external walls have full height glazing to the front, and clerestory windows to the side to create a light and airy feel, and the extension has been fully fitted-out including space heating, ventilation and a fire alarm system.

Throughout, we worked on an occupied site, with students and staff maintaining their routines.
