This project has just been completed (in September 2022) and comprised the complete redevelopment of a site, including partial demolition of a redundant pool building, and then part conversion and part new build works to form a useful SEN space comprising 2 classrooms, an office, 2 sensory rooms and communal areas, all to meet the required BS Standards.
We started by infilling the existing pool to provide a suitable base, using form concrete with RC screed.
We then removed / replaced external walls to bring light into the building whilst not affecting the Glulam structure.
Internally, a complete new build reconfiguration was carried out, with new internal walls, new ceilings, and complete new M&E self servicing systems – this included removal of legacy plant and installation of new plant to service the space.
As a design and build scheme delivered under the Scape framework, Conamar were appointed at feasibility stages and managed the works from initial surveys, through design, construction and completion. We are now at post completion occupancy stages and monitoring the building for future lessons learnt.
As part of the design stages, we liaised closely with the school and the design team to ascertain the BB1104 design standards required, which included correct classification of the spaces, which was determined as Key stage 2 autistic spectrum. This then dictated standards to be achieved, and we worked closely with the supply chain to ensure we met the specification.
