Here at Conamar, we love creating brand new spaces for both work and recreational purposes. Our mission is to help develop local communities further, and the fact we’re a family oriented construction firm ensures we deliver customer-centric workmanship throughout. Below are some examples of leisure centres and gym fit outs we have completed.
Saxon Pool, Biggleswade
We delivered this project from initial feasibility study to handover. Having been procured via the Scape Group framework, we were handed the task of refurbishing wet side changing rooms and pool side seating replacements. Working within a wet environment, we had to use specialist finishes to ensure long-term exposure would cause no damage. The project was completed over three separate phases, where the nature of work being completed was dictated by how much of the accommodation was being used.
Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre, Leighton Buzzard
This project required our team to refurbish changing facilities, showers and WC’s. A brand new vanity area was also installed with a new ceiling-mounted AC placed within the kitchen, entrance and gym. Tiling was also laid across the changing areas and main pool, where we made sure this was done in accordance with important slip tests. Since the project was completed whilst the facility was still in use, we had to carefully segregate works to ensure the most disruptive aspects were completed out of hours. Another key consideration was how we could minimise disruption to a local Primary School, which meant deliveries were scheduled outside of the busiest travel periods.
North Herts Leisure Centre, Letchworth
All existing lockers and benches were completely ripped out, after which our team undertook several demolition works to required areas, removing redundant partitions and walls. Brand new blockwork walls were then installed and plaster repairs made where necessary. Alongside both tiling and AC work, we also constructed WC’s and changing facilities. This was another project completed within a live environment, so once again, we segregated the work as best we could, and carried out the most disruptive elements out of hours.
Spin Studio, Flitwick
Under the SCAPE framework, we completed this project from the feasibility stage, offering a full design and build service. Various modifications were made to the facility to help form a new immersive studio. This was built with a large screen along one wall displaying a moving scene. Across the floor, six specialist cycles were fixed which linked to a computer system designed to track key stats from each rider. New lighting and sound effects were also installed by a named contractor working alongside our team. During the project, we saved the client over £6,000 by suggesting an alternative specification for their tiles. Everything was rounded off with the installation of both air changing and air conditioning systems which covered the new spin studio.
John Reed Gym, Liverpool Street, London
The first ever John Reed Gym in the UK was completed by the Conamar team in July 2021 as part of the new Crossrail site comprising both offices and retail. Given the scale of the project, we worked alongside 50 other contractors on site, taking part in wider site meetings to ensure both deliveries and logistics were carefully planned out. Specialist insurance was also required prior to the work getting started.
