Today, our Business Development Manager, Chris Davies, attended the Samuel Whitbread Academy Careers Fair to share insights about exciting career opportunities in the construction industry. As a local, family-owned business, it was an honour to support the school and connect with motivated students exploring pathways in construction.
We look forward to supporting their journeys as they consider a future in this dynamic industry.
Last Friday, 20th September, Conamar had the pleasure of participating in the Bedfordshire Construction Breakfast Charity Golf Day at Bedford & County Golf Club. We teamed up with Scott White & Hookins, Woods Hardwick, and Hogarth Cooke Knight (HCK) to support two local charities: King’s Arms Project and Bedford Daycare Hospice (now known as Keech Hospice Care).
Our teams, represented by Neil, Tom, Nat, Chris, Tristan, David Drake, and Jamie, along with four invited guests, enjoyed a fantastic day of golf.
We’re pleased to announce that two of our teams, finished joint 6th with scores of 115. A great performance across the board! Congratulations to The Kamdits for taking first place with a score of 133.
More importantly, the day was about supporting two vital Bedfordshire charities:
King’s Arms Project, working to address homelessness and displacement in the community.
Keech Hospice Care, which provides care and support to patients with life-limiting conditions.
We’re proud to have contributed to such a worthwhile event and extend our thanks to all the participants and organisers for making it a success.
We’re proud to be sponsoring the Pagabo Foundation team as they embark on a tough 3-day cycling challenge around the beautiful Loire Valley in France this weekend. Over the event, they'll cycle over 500 miles and tackle a total elevation of 22,000 feet!
The Pagabo Foundation does incredible work raising awareness for mental health in the construction industry—an important cause that we’re thrilled to support.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported this effort so far! If you’d like to contribute to the cause, you can still donate via this link: https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/fundraising/pagabo-foundation

This wonderful event supported two incredible charities:
Footprints Conductive Education Centre, aiding children and families with mobility and communication challenges in the East Midlands.
PASIC - Cancer support for children and young people, providing support for children and young people battling cancer.
A big thank you to SCAPE for organising such a fun and meaningful day. We were thrilled to have been invited and are looking forward to the next one!
We are excited to share the success of a recent collaborative project between Conamar and Blu Building Consultants at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
The overgrown garden in the Mental Health Unit has been transformed into a serene and calming space, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our teams. Six Conamar employees and three from Blu gave up their time to spend a day clearing and tidying the green and open space.
Our main goal was to create a peaceful environment for the service users, offering them a tranquil area to spend time in or to look out into from inside the unit.
This project highlights the power of teamwork and community spirit, and we are proud to have contributed to enhancing the well-being of those at Lister Hospital.
Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work and dedication

Autumn / Winter is now upon us and that brings with it an increase in Seasonal Health issues in the form of Colds – Flu and Covid.
As with any of the aforementioned, it affects the ability of individuals to function correctly and also the spread of infection to others is significantly increased especially in closed environments.
Cold & Flu is very infectious and easily spread to other people. You're more likely to give it to others in the first 5 days.
Cold & Flu is spread by germs from coughs and sneezes, which can live on hands and surfaces for over 24 hours.
To reduce the risk of spreading Colds / Flu / Covid
• Wash your hands often using warm water & soap / Alcohol Gel
• Cover your mouth & nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you do not have a tissue to hand – cough or sneeze into the bend of your elbow, Not into your hand.
• Dispose of Tissues immediately.
• Clean Keyboards regularly with alcohol wipes.
• Liaise with your GP for Flu / Covid Jabs
• Test for COVID – If positive – Remain at home until tested negative.
• Conamar Cleaning Arrangements.

Great news - we have managed to secure places on the new Pagabo Refit & Refurbishment framework, for works up to £15m across various areas. This is in addition to the Pagabo Medium Works Framework that we were successful on earlier in the year. These two new workstreams will provide opportunities from public sector clients to support the business going forward.

We are delighted to announce we have secured a place on the Medium Works Framework for Pagabo. The framework that went live on the 17th January, is the second instalment of the framework that spans a number of sectors.
The framework will run for four years and will include projects up to £10 million in value. It fits in with our commitment to social value and sustainability.
It has been another successful year with many new projects going live; including the restoration and refurbishment of Walworth Town Hall, the new build of Garsington Opera Arts Hub and the complex repair and refurbishment of Liverpool Street Arcade. We are also excited to be in final negotiations for the £10m refurbishment of the Heals department store in Tottenham Court Road, London.
I would like to thank you all for your hard work, loyalty and dedication over the past year, as we continue to go from strength to strength and invest in our staff and subcontractors.
Wishing you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and the very best for 2023.
A Conamar Project has recently just handed back over to the Client, a phase of the works in which a Medical Facility is undergoing renovation / refurbishment works. To undertake the next phase – wooden Hoarding was being installed to separate the new CDM works and provide a working area free from Medical Staff and members of the Public.
What happened
The work required to be undertaken, required close interface with Medical Staff and members of the Public in need of going to appointments.
Control Measures
The Site team installed Red Plastic Crowd Barriers and provided a Site Marshall to be in attendance and ensure no unauthorized access to the area being worked on. A power outage led to the corridor / site lighting to turn off and therefore reduced lighting levels. The Site Marshall left the area to request an electrician on site at the time, to remedy the Power Outage and restore lighting levels. Note: No Mobile Phone Signal in parts of the building. At this time, a member of the Medical Staff entered the worksite to retrieve food from a fridge that was in a staff room – now in the new CDM area. As they entered the individual tripped over a timber baton and stumbled. Fortunately, the incident did not result in serious injury, and the staff member was able to resume their duties and work.
Lessons Learnt:
If possible, install during periods of no interface with Staff or Public.
Ensure Site Marshall always remains in situ.
Ensure existing staff of a facility fully understand Prohibited areas and add signage where possible to warn.

Sustainability at the Core: The project incorporated sustainable design and construction practices, including the use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for vertical extensions and roofs, significantly reducing the carbon footprint. The revitalised Town Hall is designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good, underscoring our commitment to environmentally responsible development.
Community Hub: At the heart of the design is a free-to-use community hub, along with flexible event spaces and creative workspaces, fostering collaboration and enhancing accessibility for local residents.
Heritage Restored: Original features dating back to 1894 have been meticulously restored, preserving the building’s historical charm while introducing modern amenities to meet contemporary needs.
Vibrant New Spaces: The new central atrium now serves as a dynamic focal point for interaction and innovation. A healthy café and co-working spaces anchor the Town Hall to the newly constructed Walworth Square, creating a seamless flow between the building and the community.

We’re thrilled to share that we are now on-site at Wood Lane Arches, our latest project with Transport for London (TfL). This exciting initiative is set to transform underutilised spaces into vibrant commercial premises, fostering economic growth and enhancing connectivity in the capital.
Project Overview:
Situated next to White City and the Westfield shopping centre in West London, the two-phase proposal will unlock the potential of 31 arches, creating new public spaces, pedestrian links, and commercial units designed to support start-ups and local businesses.
Current Phase Progress:
Phase One: Scheduled for completion later this year, this phase will see the transformation of 13 arches into dynamic retail spaces, including shops and cafés. In addition, three arches will be knocked through to create beautifully landscaped, walkable routes, enhancing pedestrian connectivity in the area.
Future Developments: The second phase will add seven more commercial units and four additional pedestrian links, further expanding the area’s accessibility and appeal.
Design Innovation:
Our approach to this project is both adaptable and forward-thinking. The design features a unique metal canopy that can be extruded to connect arches via an internal corridor, allowing for flexible multi-arch lets. This ‘kit of parts’ concept is not only tailored to Wood Lane but also has the potential to be rolled out to other similar sites across London.
As we progress with this transformative project, we are excited about the positive impact it will have on the local community and the opportunities it will create for emerging businesses. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to bring Wood Lane Arches to life.
We’re thrilled to share the latest updates on the ongoing refurbishment works at Gunwharf Quays, the South’s premier designer shopping outlet. Our team has been working diligently to bring our vision to life while ensuring minimal disruption to the vibrant atmosphere that defines this iconic destination.
Current On-Site Progress:
Paving Replacement - The replacement of paving is well underway, enhancing the aesthetics and durability of the walkways.
Daily Floor Cleaning – Identifying the importance of maintaining a seamless shopping experience, we’re conducting daily floor cleaning and handovers to ensure that the existing paving remains in top condition throughout the project.
Cladding Installation - Access scaffolding and edge protection are now in place, allowing us to proceed with the installation of new cladding over the cinema bridge.
Decorations - We’ve made significant progress with high-level works, including the boxing, lighting troughs, goal posts, and cladding, all of which are now decorated and nearing completion.
Recognising Gunwharf Quays as a bustling hub of activity, we have meticulously planned our operations to minimise any impact on visitors and retailers. By conducting work during evening hours and times of closure, we ensure that daily operations, access, and trading at the shopping centre remain unaffected.
These updates are just the beginning, and we remain committed to revitalising the consumer experience at Gunwharf Quays. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to transform this vibrant hub.
Conamar is excited to announce the commencement of our latest project - the comprehensive refurbishment of Jubilee and Howard buildings at the University of Roehampton. This £2M project forms the foundation for the new Sustainable Engineering and Technology Education Centre (SETEC), a cornerstone initiative dedicated to advancing Engineering and Built Environment education with a strong focus on sustainability.
Our work on the Jubilee building includes vital external repairs such as replastering and painting walls, replacing damaged windows and doors, and upgrading the roof with thermal insulation to enhance energy efficiency. Internally, we are repurposing existing structures and installing state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEPH) systems. Additionally, we are integrating a new passenger lift, modern WCs, and flexible teaching spaces to support SETEC’s mission.
By embracing the Green Skills philosophy, this project not only rejuvenates these historic buildings but also aligns with SETEC's goal of achieving a BREEAM rating of Excellent. We are proud to support the University of Roehampton’s commitment to sustainability and the UK’s journey towards net zero by 2050.
As we transform Jubilee and Howard buildings, we are not just upgrading facilities; we are fostering an environment where future engineers and technologists can thrive.
We are excited to announce that we have been busy on-site at Walworth Town Hall, embarking on a significant project to refurbish and extend this historic building in central London. This complex scheme will see the Town Hall, which has stood derelict since a devastating fire in 2013, restored to its former glory and repurposed for modern use.
Project Highlights:
Historical Restoration: The designs by Feix & Merlin, Heyne Tillett Steel, and RED honour the building’s heritage dating back to 1894, carefully restoring original features while incorporating new elements.
Modern Functionality: The project includes new vertical extensions and roofs using CLT for the primary new structure, and the provision of a new core area to improve accessibility.
Community Hub: The revitalised Town Hall will feature a free-to-use community hub, event spaces, and workspaces for independent creative ventures, fostering collaboration and innovation.
Central Atrium: The new central atrium will serve as the vibrant heart of the building, promoting interaction and collaboration among users.
Enhanced Accessibility: A new entrance at Walworth Square will provide better connectivity with the community, while a healthy café and co-working space will anchor the building to its surroundings.
Significant Usable Space: The project will deliver approximately 50,000 sq/ft of usable space, revitalising an important landmark in the area’s regeneration.
Upon completion, the external works will allow the building’s community uses to seamlessly integrate with the newly constructed Walworth Square, enhancing the local environment.
Given the site's logistical complexity, surrounded by private residences and a major trunk road, we have worked closely with the council throughout the contract to ensure suitable safeguarding and management measures are in place.
Stay tuned to see completion pictures of the impressive building interior as we bring Walworth Town Hall back to life, creating a dynamic space that blends historic charm with modern functionality.
We're thrilled to announce the completion of Phase 2 at the historic Clarence Park Pavilion in St Albans. Following our acclaimed external upgrades earlier this year, the recent refurbishments have also received glowing feedback.
A special thanks to St Albans Cricket Club for their heartfelt appreciation:
"I wanted to get in touch to say a big thank you on behalf of the Cricket Club for all the hard work that has gone into the pavilion refurbishment. We're really thrilled with the end result and can't wait to start using it now the cricket season is here."
We're eagerly looking forward to the formal reopening ceremony in May, where we'll celebrate the transformation of the Clarence Park Pavilion alongside the community.
We are excited to announce that we are now starting on site for the upcoming refurbishment works at Gunwharf Quays, the South’s premier designer shopping outlet. Our mission: to revitalise the consumer experience without interrupting the vibrant flow of shopping and dining that defines Gunwharf Quays.
Our planned enhancements include the introduction of new flooring, innovative wall finishes, dynamic signage, strategic greening, enhanced lighting, and more. These interventions are designed to enrich the ambience and overall experience for visitors and retailers alike.
Recognising the importance of Gunwharf Quays as a bustling hub of activity, we have meticulously planned our operations. Work will be conducted during evening hours and times of closure, ensuring that the daily operations, access, and trading at the shopping centre remain unaffected by the refurbishment works.
We're thrilled to announce the completion of the Heals Store project, a landmark transformation that marries heritage with modern sustainability. Launched last Thursday, this renovation not only preserves the iconic charm of Heals but provides a sustainable redevelopment in the heart of London.
Our journey involved meticulous design and construction efforts to create a new entrance, reconfigure retail spaces, and transform upper floors into cutting-edge office accommodations. A highlight of our project is the innovative reuse of materials from the original building, embodying our commitment to sustainable practices and making Heals Store a leading example of eco-friendly restoration.
This project was a labour of love, described by our Pre-Construction Director, Nathanial, as one of his "most enjoyable projects of the last 10 years." It stands testament not only to our hard work but to our dedication to preserving the past while embracing the future.
As we move forward, Heals Store stands as a beacon of what can be achieved when we combine respect for history with innovative sustainability. Here's to setting new benchmarks and continuing our journey of transforming spaces for a better tomorrow.

Conamar is proud to unveil our latest project - the £2M refurbishment of Milleret House, part of the historic Convent of the Assumption, nestled in the heart of Central London. This project showcases our commitment to preserving tranquillity while embracing modernity.
Our approach was meticulously planned to respect the serene atmosphere of this religious retreat, featuring peaceful gardens and quiet cloisters. We employed modern construction techniques, including non-percussive tooling and a considerate noise management system, to ensure minimal disruption to the convent’s daily sanctity.
The extensive refurbishment involved stripping out existing structures, reconfiguring internal walls for enhanced usability, and installing an additional lift for improved accessibility. We also focused on enhancing the building's environmental performance - upgrading external walls with insulated plasterboard and revamping M&E systems to favour natural ventilation, significantly improving sustainability.
As we breathe new life into Milleret House, we're not just upgrading a building; we're enhancing a community's spiritual and physical environment.
As we near completion, discover the evolution of the Brighton Theatre renovation through our time-lapse video.
Tasked with the significant responsibility of refurbishing this historic venue, Conamar's team has been hard at work, blending the theatre's rich history with necessary modern upgrades. Most recently, we have completed the terracotta colonnade replicating original historic architectural details.
Thrilling to see all of the hard work come to life!
We're honoured to announce our latest project - the refurbishment of the historic Brighton Theatre, a beloved landmark since 1807. Our journey with this architectural treasure involves a delicate balance of preserving its rich history and implementing modern enhancements.
This unique theatre, a tapestry of architectural styles from its original Regency structure to its 1927 refurbishment, has stood the test of time. Our task is to breathe new life into this cultural icon while respecting its historical integrity.
Key aspects of our work include refurbishing the iconic colonnade and installing a new theatre sign, symbolising a new era for the Brighton Theatre. We're also upgrading the auditorium's ventilation and electrical systems to meet contemporary standards, ensuring the theatre remains a vibrant part of the community.
A crucial element of our project is the careful remodelling of the stage door, enhancing the efficiency of production setups and strikes. This will not only streamline operations but also preserve the character of the building, which has evolved from stabling and yards to scene stores in the 19th century.
Appointed through a competitive tender process, Conamar is committed to revitalising this historic venue, ensuring it continues to be a beacon of culture and entertainment.
Works are progressing well at the Heals Store development. The works aim to deliver CAT A Office accommodation to he upper floors, with reconfigured retail to the lower floors.
A key focus of our project is sustainability. We're upgrading M&E systems to introduce new ventilation solutions that lower carbon emissions and removing outdated plant items. Plus, we're giving the Alfred Mews façade a facelift with careful brickwork cleaning and new render banding.
On the exterior, our team is dedicated to refurbishing Critall windows and revitalising the brickwork and stonework, preserving the building's historic charm.
This phased project reflects our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and respect for historical architecture.
Conamar is proud to lead a vital project to improve access for employees with disabilities as part of our ongoing framework with the Departent of Work and Pensions. From initial feasibility stage, we focused on transforming the facility into an inclusive environment.
Key upgrades include redefining the external disabled parking for better access, creating ramped access, installing new aluminium doors with automatic features, and enhancing safety with stop barriers.
Internally, we've made essential modifications to the toilets, including DDA-compliant handrails, and refreshed the space with new vinyl flooring and decoration works.
