Closer to home, we are very pleased to have completed our first Passivhaus project – a six bedroomed private house on a farm in rural Hertfordshire.
These homes are great from a resident’s point of view. Extremely energy efficient without compromising on design, they have a devoted following. From a contractor’s point of view, their success depends on scrupulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of both the overall brief and how to ensure that every element of the build contributes to the final, airtight structure. Even with 60 operatives from all trades on site over the six month build period, we were able to ensure that Passivhaus principles were delivered and the benefits of this approach remain in place post-completion.
Clients often bring us on board to deliver new and innovative technologies and we’re always pleased to be trusted with these tasks. It has been good to see so many sustainable features, from solar panels and heat recovery systems to Klargester drainage, being specified and to be able to advise on how best to integrate them with the wider project. And although they might initially be unusual, it’s like everything else in construction: with early involvement and a logical approach, great things can be delivered.
